Henry Essex Edgeworth : Confessor of French King Louis XVI He was born in Edgeworthstown, County Longford, Ireland as the second child in a family of eight, four of whom died in infancy. His father was the third generation Church of Ireland rector of Edgeworthstown who with his family later converted to Roman Catholicism. His mother Martha Ussher is often referred to as a granddaughter of Archbishop Ussher but was in fact from a different branch of the family….
