On 12 December 2025, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan participated in the Ashgabat International Forum, marking the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality. In his address, President Tokayev congratulated Turkmenistan’s leaders and highlighted the positive role of neutrality in promoting stability and sustainable development across Eurasia. He emphasized that initiatives discussed at the forum reaffirm the enduring relevance of peace, trust, and cooperation in today’s complex international landscape.
President Tokayev underscored Kazakhstan’s commitment to the United Nations’ peace and trust agenda, highlighting the need for UN reform and stronger multilateral mechanisms to address global tensions. He welcomed regional initiatives, including the proposed UN University for Peace and Neutrality, and stressed Kazakhstan’s support for resolving conflicts in Ukraine, the Middle East, the South Caucasus, and Afghanistan. The forum also offered a platform to discuss interreligious, intercultural, and multilateral cooperation as foundations for long-term regional stability.
Highlighting sustainable development and connectivity, President Tokayev detailed Kazakhstan’s efforts to modernize transport networks, develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, and ensure regional water security through joint initiatives on the Aral and Caspian Seas. He proposed establishing an international water organization within the UN system to consolidate global efforts on water management. Concluding his remarks, he expressed confidence that the Ashgabat Forum would strengthen partnerships among states and advance a just, trust-based global order. Leaders from Turkmenistan, Russia, Türkiye, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and other countries participated, reflecting broad regional and international engagement.
