Professor Obasi, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), from 1 January 1984 to 31 December 2003 passed away on 3 March in Abuja, Nigeria. Professor Obasi, aged 74, held a B.Sc (Honors) degree in Mathematics and Physics from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, a Master of Science degree and a Doctorate in meteorology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
